Masako Harada, PhD
Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering
Originally from Sapporo, Hokkaido Japan. Masako received B.Sc. degree in Molecular Genetics from King’s College London (UK), Ph.D. in Experimental Oncology from Karolinska Institute (Sweden) and postdoctoral training in Cancer Chemotherapy from Stanford University (USA). She joined MSU as an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering since July 2017.


Shakhlo Aminova, BSc
Research Assistant
Shakhlo is a recent graduate of MSU with a major in Genomics and Molecular Genetics. Originally from Portage, Michigan, she aspires to go graduate school to learn more about gene therapy and cancer biology. Outside of the lab she enjoys reading, and hanging out with friends and family.


Katherine Lauro
Undergraduate Student, 2021 MSU-EnSURE scholar
Katie is an undergraduate student from Rancho Palos Verdes, California. She is majoring in Human Biology in the College of Natural Science and minoring in Bioethics and Women and Gender Studies. She plans on attending medical school but while still maintaining a connection to research. Outside of the lab, Katie enjoys reading, going to the beach, and spending time with friends and family.



Hiroaki Komuro, PhD
Postdoctoral Scholar
Hiroaki is working as a postdoctoral researcher in both the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan State University (Prof. Dr. Harada lab) and the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (Prof. Dr. Sasano lab). In April 2018, he joined Sasano Lab to study gene delivery biomaterial development for cardiomyocytes as a PhD student. He defended his PhD in August 2020 and then joined Dr. Harada’s lab to study EV-mediated gene delivery as visiting researcher. Currently, his research focuses on developing EVs for a novel therapeutic and diagnostic tool.

Brian Glowski
Undergraduate Student, 2021 MSU-EnSURE scholar
Brian is an undergraduate student majoring in Neuroscience with a concentration in Behavioral and Systems Neuroscience in the College of Natural Sciences along with a minor in Health Promotion. He plans to attend medical school and continue his research interests as a medical scientist. Outside of the lab, Brian enjoys playing the piano and hiking.
