Masako Harada, PhD
Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering
Originally from Sapporo, Hokkaido Japan. Masako received B.Sc. degree in Molecular Genetics from King’s College London (UK), Ph.D. in Experimental Oncology from Karolinska Institute (Sweden) and postdoctoral training in Cancer Chemotherapy from Stanford University (USA). She joined MSU as an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering since July 2017.

Shakhlo is an Undergraduate junior from Portage, Michigan, majoring in Genomics and Molecular Genetics at Lyman Briggs College. Her future goal is to attend medical school, and remain a part of the scientific community. In the lab, she investigates the methods of creating DNA constructs to protect pancreatic beta cells from autoimmune destruction. Outside of the lab, Shakhlo enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Nathaniel is an undergraduate student pursuing a major in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering along with a minor in Bioethics at Lyman Briggs College. Hailing from Canton, Michigan, Nathaniel is interested in developing a career as a physician-scientist that involves the study of the future of gene therapy and its impact on society. Outside of the lab, he enjoys spending time playing the piano and saxophone.
Katie is an undergraduate student from Rancho Palos Verdes, California. She is majoring in Human Biology in the College of Natural Science and minoring in Bioethics and Women and Gender Studies. She plans on attending medical school but while still maintaining a connection to research. Outside of the lab, Katie enjoys reading, going to the beach, and spending time with friends and family.
Paige is an undergraduate student from Oxford, Michigan with a major in Human Biology and minors in Health Promotion and Bioethics. She is currently working to achieve her goals of attending medical school with hopes of one day specializing in surgery or anesthesia. Outside of the lab Paige enjoys traveling, snowboarding, and spending time with loved ones.
